Be careful not to drill too far, or you’ll crack the drywall.ĥ.Make sure your screw goes just below the drywall so as not to be protruding.Attach the wood by placing it behind the original drywall and screwing through the drywall into the wood. Put it near the edge of the most exposed area where there is no stud.Ĥ.Depending on where the nearest stud is will determine where you should put this reinforcement piece.This backing piece should leave a couple inches on the top and bottom of the hole.Use a piece scrap wood that isn’t too thick (less than 1″1/2). ![]() Now you’ll need to attach something for the new piece of drywall to attach to.
